What this calculator does
Months to years is a conversion that shows up in loan terms, lease lengths, warranty periods and age milestones, anywhere a duration is naturally counted in months but easier to compare once expressed in years. Unlike day-based conversions, this one is exact: every calendar year has exactly 12 months, with no leap-year adjustment needed.
This calculator converts months to years or years to months, both directions. It defaults to 36 months, a common loan or warranty term, but any number of months or years can be entered.
The formula
Because a calendar year always has exactly 12 months, converting months to years means dividing by 12, and converting years to months means multiplying by 12. The equivalent in days is also shown, using the 30.4375-day average month for that one figure.
