What this calculator does
How many drops in 1 ml depends entirely on the size of the drop, which is set by whatever the liquid is coming out of: a fine medicine dropper, a standard IV giving set or an eye-dropper bottle all produce a different drop volume, so there is no single universal answer. The common reference figure of 20 drops per millilitre is a rough approximation for water-like liquids through a standard dropper, not a fixed physical constant.

The formula
Multiply the volume in millilitres by the drop factor to get the total number of drops. To go the other way, divide the drop count by the drop factor to recover the volume in millilitres. The drop factor is the number of drops that make up one millilitre for the specific dropper or device being used.
