Games & Culture Desk

Damage, survivability, drop odds and grind time: the arithmetic behind build choices.

What this desk is

StatGarden is published by one person rather than a newsroom. The desks are editorial identities used to show which standards a page was built to, not pen names for staff writers: no desk is a person, and none of them claims that a qualified professional has reviewed an individual page.

What a desk does say is how its pages are made, and that is a claim you can check: open any calculator it covers and the formula is printed on the page, the worked examples are generated by running that calculator rather than typed in by hand, and every rate or price is a field you set rather than a figure baked in by whoever wrote it.

How these pages are built

  • Nothing that a patch can change is hard-coded. Armour constants, drop rates, mouse yaw and base stats are all inputs, so a balance update does not silently make a page wrong.
  • Fixed game maths is hard-coded deliberately and labelled as such, such as the Minecraft experience curve and the generation 3 Pokemon stat formula.
  • Where a model is an approximation of something a real engine does differently, the page says which parts it is leaving out.
