Finance Desk

Loans, investing, property, insurance cover and the metrics businesses run on.

What this desk is

StatGarden is published by one person rather than a newsroom. The desks are editorial identities used to show which standards a page was built to, not pen names for staff writers: no desk is a person, and none of them claims that a qualified professional has reviewed an individual page.

What a desk does say is how its pages are made, and that is a claim you can check: open any calculator it covers and the formula is printed on the page, the worked examples are generated by running that calculator rather than typed in by hand, and every rate or price is a field you set rather than a figure baked in by whoever wrote it.

How these pages are built

  • Every rate, fee, tax percentage and threshold is a field you set. Nothing on these pages carries a figure that a budget or a central bank can make wrong overnight.
  • Where a calculation has a standard form, the page names it and shows it: the amortisation formula, the coinsurance condition, the Kaya identity. You can check the working or rebuild it in a spreadsheet.
  • Pages that touch money and risk end with a note saying what the figure is not, and point at a licensed professional for the part a calculator cannot answer.

What this desk does not claim

These pages are arithmetic, not financial advice. For a decision that depends on your circumstances, a licensed adviser is the right place to take it.
