What this calculator does
Searching how many weeks left in 2025, or in whichever year it happens to be, always comes down to the same sum: the days remaining until 31 December of that year, divided into weeks. This calculator runs that sum from today by default, or from any reference date you choose, so the figure is correct for the year that date actually falls in rather than one fixed year.
The answer changes every day, which is exactly why a fixed number goes stale fast: how many weeks left in 2026, checked in January, is a very different figure to the same question checked in November. Entering a reference date here, left on today for a live answer, gives the exact weeks and days remaining for whichever year and day you are actually asking about.
The formula
The reference date is compared against 31 December of the same year. The days between them, counting the reference date itself, is the days-remaining figure, and dividing that by 7 gives the weeks-remaining figure, both as a decimal and split into whole weeks plus a day remainder.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Reference date | The date the count runs from, defaulting to today. |
| Days remaining | The number of days left in that year, from the reference date to and including 31 December. |
| Weeks remaining | Days remaining divided by 7, given as a decimal and as whole weeks plus a day remainder. |
The inputs explained
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Reference date | The date to count from. Leave it on today for how many weeks are left in the current year, or pick another date to check a different point in the year. |
When to use it
Tracking a year-end goal or budget
A savings goal, a project deadline or a budget tracked against the calendar year benefits from knowing the exact weeks remaining, rather than a rough guess at how much of the year is left.
Planning the remainder of a working year
Leave, rostering and project planning for the rest of the year often work in weeks rather than days, and the whole-weeks-plus-days figure matches that directly.
Checking how many weeks are left in a year that is not the current one
Setting the reference date to 1 January of any year shows the total weeks in that year from its start, which answers how many weeks in a year overall rather than weeks remaining from today.
Worked examples
Every figure in the tables below is produced by this page’s own calculator at build time, so the numbers and the tool always agree. Select any row to load that scenario.
How the weeks remaining figure falls through the year
The same calculation run from a series of reference dates spaced through one calendar year.

| 2026-04-01 | 39 weeks, 2 days | 275 |
| 2026-07-01 | 26 weeks, 2 days | 184 |
| 2026-10-01 | 13 weeks, 1 days | 92 |

Questions
How many weeks left in 2025?
Set the reference date to any day in 2025 and the calculator counts forward to 31 December 2025 from that day. Left on today, the figure automatically applies to whichever year today falls in instead.
How many weeks left in 2026?
The same calculation applies to any year: set the reference date to a day in 2026 and the days and weeks remaining are counted to 31 December 2026.
Does the count include today, or the date I enter?
Yes. The reference date itself is counted as one of the remaining days, so checking on 31 December shows 1 day and a fraction of a week remaining, not zero.
How many weeks are in a year overall, not just remaining?
Set the reference date to 1 January of that year, which shows the days and weeks remaining from the very start of the year, equal to the total weeks the year contains.
For the total day count and leap year status of any year, see the days in a year or month calculator. To count the weeks between two specific dates instead of to year-end, use the weeks between two dates calculator.
