What this calculator does
Converting ml to grams only works cleanly for water, where one millilitre happens to weigh one gram. Anything else, milk, honey, oil, cream, weighs a different amount for the same volume, because density is not the same across liquids. This converter multiplies the volume you enter by the density of the liquid you pick, so 100 ml of honey does not come out at the same weight as 100 ml of water.
It works in both directions. Enter a volume and pick "millilitres to grams" to get a weight, or enter a weight and pick "grams to millilitres" to get back a volume, for example when a recipe gives an ingredient by weight but your measuring jug only has a volume scale.
The formula
Grams and millilitres measure different things, mass and volume, so converting between them needs a third number: density, in grams per millilitre. Multiplying volume by density gives mass; dividing mass by density gives volume back. Water is defined so that 1 mL weighs almost exactly 1 g, which is why it is the one liquid where the two units can be swapped without thinking. Every other liquid in the list uses its own typical density instead of that 1:1 shortcut.

When to use it
Following a recipe given by weight
Baking recipes, especially European ones, often give liquid ingredients like milk or honey in grams rather than millilitres. If your kitchen only has a jug marked in ml, converting the gram figure first tells you where to fill to.
Checking a nutrition or dosage label
Labels sometimes mix units, a volume on the front of the pack and a weight in the nutrition panel. Converting one to the other checks that the two figures actually agree, rather than assuming they do.
Scaling a liquid ingredient in a recipe
When resizing a recipe, some ingredients are easier to measure by weight on a kitchen scale than by volume in a jug, particularly thick liquids like honey or condensed milk that cling to the sides of a measuring cup.

Questions
Is 1 ml always equal to 1 gram?
Only for water, and only approximately, since its density is very close to but not exactly 1 g/mL depending on temperature. For every other liquid on this page, ml to grams needs that liquid’s own density, not the water shortcut.
How do I convert grams to ml for a specific ingredient?
Pick the liquid from the list, choose "grams to millilitres" as the direction, and enter the weight. The result divides that weight by the liquid’s density to give a volume.
Why does honey weigh more than water at the same volume?
Honey is a dense, sugar-saturated liquid with very little water in it by comparison, at roughly 1.42 g/mL against water’s 1.00 g/mL. The same 100 mL scoop of each therefore differs in weight by about 42 g.
Are these densities exact?
They are typical figures for each liquid at room temperature. Milk, cream and juice vary a little by fat content and brand, and honey varies with moisture content, so treat the result as a close estimate rather than a certified figure.
