Paper quantity calculator

Sheets, quires and reams, the units the printing and stationery trade uses.

What this calculator does

Paper quantity works out sheets, quires and reams, the units the printing and stationery trade uses. Enter your own figures above and the answer updates as you type: nothing is fixed in the code, so the result reflects exactly the numbers you supply.

The formula this calculator evaluates is printed under the tool and explained below, so you can check the working by hand or reuse it in a spreadsheet.

The formula

Formularesult = value × factor(from) ÷ factor(to), with sheet as the base unit. Factors: sheet=1, quire=25, quire_short=24, ream=500, ream_short=480, ream_printers=516. A quire is traditionally 1/20 of a ream; some specialty papers use a 24-sheet short quire and 480-sheet short ream
