What this calculator does
Tablespoons to grams and grams to tablespoons are the two directions of the same everyday kitchen problem: a recipe measured by volume needs converting to weight, or a weight on a packet needs converting back to a spoon measure. The answer depends on the ingredient, since a tablespoon is a fixed volume but different ingredients pack into it at different densities.
This calculator converts in both directions for eleven common ingredients, from butter and sugar to honey and flour, using the same US tablespoon (14.79 ml, 1/16 of a US cup) and per-cup density figures used throughout the site's baking conversions.
The formula
Grams per tablespoon is the grams-per-cup figure for that ingredient divided by 16, since there are 16 US tablespoons in a US cup. To go from tablespoons to grams, multiply by that per-tablespoon figure; to go from grams to tablespoons, divide by it.

Why does the same weight in grams give a different number of tablespoons for different ingredients?
Grams measure weight and tablespoons measure volume, and different ingredients have different densities. A dense ingredient like honey needs fewer tablespoons to reach a given weight than a light one like flour.
