World Happiness Report - 2018

The World Happiness Report 2018, released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network in collaboration with Gallup, provides a comprehensive assessment of global well-being. This edition focuses on migration and happiness, examining how happiness levels compare between immigrants and native-born populations. The report continues to assess happiness based on factors such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

  1. Rank – Country rank by happiness.
  2. Country – Country Name.
  3. Ladder score – The main happiness measure, based on the Cantril ladder where people rate their life on a scale from 0 (worst possible life) to 10 (best possible life).

Use Cases

Finland ranked as the world's happiest country in 2018, with a score of 7.632, followed closely by Norway and Denmark. These Nordic countries consistently perform well in areas such as social support, income, and life expectancy. The report highlights that the happiness of immigrants closely aligns with that of the native-born population, suggesting that the overall happiness of a country benefits both groups.

In contrast, countries at the bottom of the rankings, such as Burundi and the Central African Republic, face challenges including low GDP per capita, limited social support, and political instability, which contribute to lower happiness scores.
